March 28, 2020 - Comes the Revolution / Old World Craftsmanship
Short ramp up to this one, but relevant:
In college, a group of us had a running joke called “Comes the Revolution,” in which we would dream about a just world, except it was mainly deployed for especially pompous others, so, for instance: “Comes the Revolution, so and so will be cleaning out stables, if there even are stables, and if he is lucky.” You with me? Okay.
The running sub-joke was called “Old World Craftsmanship.” (This was the 70s. We did not yet say Craftspersonship. Let it go.) This sub-joke involved what skills each of us would practice, when nothing was automated any more. We would be like Medieval monks, producing exquisite and exacting work. (I can’t remember my personal craft, alas, but it may come back at 2 am. Stay posted. Sandra, do you recall my skill, by any chance?)
I do fondly recall one person whose chosen craft was putting the holes in Ritz crackers. He knew how many holes each Ritz cracker had, and how they were spaced. He smoked a lot of pot.
SO. You see the photo here? That is a mended screen door. I just mended it, with a needle and thread, because on the last sunny day some flies got into the house. It was an interesting project, and made me feel that my lifelong desire to play the harp was not misplaced. Comes the Revolution, I’m taking harp lessons from somebody. But not buying a harp. That’s an interesting problem. Hmmm.
Anyway, if you need a screen door mended and we come out of lockdown and your budget won’t stretch, and you don’t mind it looking like this…. I’m Your Craftsperson! Something to look forward to.

There was also the task of cutting the crenellations on the perimeter of postage stamps. Can't remember if that was yours, specifically.
