June 15, 2020 - Guest column, You Miss It When It's Gone -
This tender piece by Bryan Washington, on missing the special-space camaraderie afforded by gay bars, makes me nostalgic for gathering places, and also for dance class. I went to a dance class in March! Only in March!
I do pine for dance class, and for singing in the choir, the energy and beauty of bodies moving together, voices singing together. Just being in groups of people can be lovely and energizing, witness the thrill of protesting or even just watching the protests pass and raising a supportive fist. But there's someting special about dancing, and singing, and acting, not just observing but PERFORMING the performing arts, with other humans.
