September 17, 2020: Today's Vocabulary Revelation (Which May Be News Only to Me) -

Listening to health care providers from Harborview Hospital talk about putting on (and taking off) PPE to treat COVID patients, I learned that they say "don" and "doff" for these procedures.

And then....

later....

I realized that "on" is in "don," and "off" is in "doff."

WHOA.

  1. Update: Reliable sources who have known this for freaking ever tell me that they are contractions of "do on" and "do off," and that this is "neato."
